WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – The U.S. Treasury Department is scheduled to hold three debt auctions next week, offering a total of $119 billion in notes and bonds. The series begins on Oct. 6 with a $58 billion auction of three-year notes. On Oct. 7, the Treasury plans to sell $39 billion of 10-year notes. The cycle concludes on Oct. 8 with a $22 billion sale of 30-year bonds. These offerings are part of the Treasury’s routine financing timetable and align with the sizes specified in its most recent quarterly refunding schedule.

The three-year security being issued is a new security, maturing on Oct. 15, 2029. For the 10-year auction, the Treasury will reopen an existing 4.625% note that matures on Aug. 15, 2036. The 30-year bond being offered is a reopened security, specifically a 5.125% bond maturing on Aug. 15, 2056. Reopening existing securities increases the total amount outstanding while maintaining the original coupon rate and maturity date. Investors have the option to submit either competitive or noncompetitive bids through Treasury’s standard auction process.
All three securities are set to settle on Oct. 15, following the schedule published by the U.S. Treasury Department. During auctions, competitive bidders specify the yield they are willing to accept, whereas noncompetitive bidders agree to accept the yield determined during the auction. The Treasury releases the final auction data after each sale, including the high yield, accepted bids, and allocation details. These securities pay fixed interest and are a significant part of the federal government’s marketable debt holdings.
Three consecutive debt sales scheduled by Treasury
These October auctions follow the September sales of the same 10-year and 30-year securities. On September 9, the Treasury sold $39 billion of the 10-year note, which yielded a high of 4.834%. The bid-to-cover ratio was 2.71, with bids totaling approximately $105.8 billion. The security has a 4.625% coupon and matures in August 2036. The upcoming October reopening will add another $39 billion of this note to the total outstanding amount.
Additionally, on September 10, the Treasury sold $22 billion of the 30-year bond, which had a high yield of 5.308%. Investors submitted bids totaling about $57.5 billion, resulting in a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.61. This bond features a 5.125% coupon and will mature in August 2056. The October auction will add another $22 billion of this security. The final yield, price, accepted bids, and allocation data will be published after the sale concludes on Thursday.
The issuance sizes align with October’s borrowing plan
These auctions are part of a broader borrowing strategy for the last quarter of 2026. The Treasury projected a net marketable borrowing of $628 billion from October through December, assuming a year-end cash balance of $850 billion. The federal government funds marketable debt through routine sales of bills, notes, bonds, and other securities. The Treasury modifies issuance across various maturities following its established financing procedures, while regularly publishing auction schedules and borrowing estimates to inform investors.
The total of $119 billion corresponds with the amounts listed in Treasury’s August financing plan for October. That schedule included $58 billion of three-year notes, $39 billion of 10-year notes, and $22 billion of 30-year bonds. The sequence of auctions will begin on Tuesday with the three-year note, followed by the 10-year on Wednesday, and the 30-year on Thursday. After each auction, the Treasury will release official results, including pricing, yield, and demand data, related to next week’s three government debt sales.
