FDA Updates Recall of Lundberg Family Farms White Jasmine Rice Due to Foreign Object Concerns

    August 31, 2026

WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – A voluntary recall of Lundberg Family Farms organic white Jasmine rice has been classified as a Class II health hazard by federal health authorities because of potential contamination with foreign objects. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s latest classification involves about 4,600 bags distributed across 13 states. Food safety officials and retail partners have begun blocking inventory while regulatory inspectors oversee the containment of the supply chain in eastern, midwestern, and southern distribution centers.

Organic dry rice samples rest on wooden kitchen counter surfaces during food prep checks.

The recall specifically involves 1-pound poly bags of Lundberg Family Farms Sustainable California White Jasmine Rice, identified by lot code 24154 and a best-by date of August 22, 2025. According to enforcement records from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, approximately 4,600 individual retail bags distributed to warehouses and grocery chains in 13 states are affected. The FDA update details that Lundberg Family Farms white rice jasmine recall impacts 13 states as retail systems trigger automated checkout blocks on the affected product batches.

The recall was initiated following internal quality control procedures that detected foreign material, specifically small glass fragments, within a production batch. Under official regulatory standards, a Class II classification indicates that exposure to the non-compliant product could cause temporary or reversible health issues, although the likelihood of serious health consequences remains low. Public health officials have confirmed that so far, no adverse health incidents or injuries related to the affected lot have been reported.

Class Two Risk Level Assigned to Organic Jasmine Rice by Regulatory Authorities

The distribution network for the affected product covers retail outlets in California, Oregon, Wisconsin, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. Major grocery chains supplied by Lundberg Family Farms have been instructed to isolate remaining stock and immediately remove the specified lot numbers from their distribution centers. Retailers have also activated electronic point-of-sale alerts to prevent affected bags from being purchased at checkout.

Lundberg Family Farms’ food safety teams confirmed that production facilities have been reviewed to locate the source of the foreign material and strengthen manufacturing containment measures. Company representatives issued public guidance advising consumers who purchased the affected 1-pound bags to avoid consuming the product and return it to the point of purchase for a full refund. Officials emphasize that other rice varieties, package sizes, and lot codes produced by the company are not impacted by this enforcement action.

Grocery Stores Are Removing Affected Bags from Shelves

Regulatory inspectors will continue overseeing the recall process until all distributed units are accounted for, destroyed, or returned. The FDA provides an online enforcement database that allows consumers and buyers to verify lot numbers against current food safety notices. Public health authorities recommend that consumers with health concerns or suspected product exposure consult healthcare providers or report incidents to regional FDA complaint coordinators.

Lundberg Family Farms is working closely with federal authorities to complete the necessary administrative steps to end the Class II enforcement process. The company’s quality assurance team has implemented improved physical screening procedures across packaging lines to ensure compliance with federal food safety standards. The company reaffirmed its dedication to product integrity and transparent communication with customers as distribution resumes normally.
